About the Chandrashila Trek with Chopta Tungnath:

Here is a 4 day 3 nights Chandrashila Trek with Chopta Tungnath starting from Haridwar. Sari is the base camp of the trek from where you will be easily connected to Deorital located at a height of about 2438 meters. Deorital trek would amuse you definitely, for it is the most visited lake with enthralling sights around it and then you will also be getting the mind-blowing sunset views from Chaukhamba Peak on the way. Chopta as a destination is reverberating, because of the largely vivacious patches of pine, oaks and rhododendron are quite alluring to watch. From 3000 meters height above sea level, one will be entertained by the visibility of Himalayan ranges pretty closer.

Chopta to Tungnath would also be an exciting trekking trip since the short trek has tricky trails to make you happy as well as anxious. The holy Tungnath temple is situated at 3400 meters above sea level. It is the right space to experience peace of mind and even does meditation to rejuvenate yourself by absorbing the pure radiance from the sun coming in between the swaying trees. Chandrashila Summit trek will also be happening on the same day that is almost near to Tungnath but at a height of about 3600 meters. Kedar, Chaukhamba and some of the other major peaks come closer to you while you are on the top portion of Chandrashila. Golden-breasted eagles are a normal sight from the summit.

This trek is comparatively easy making it suitable for beginners and also for children. Yet, advanced trekkers would also find it quite interesting passing by the thick green forests and watching the snow-clad peaks at the distance. Normal fitness is only necessary to do this trek and those who love nature deeply would get a feast to their eyes with this closer to nature trek and the sights will be varying depending on the season you choose.

On the last day of the trek, you will be travelling back to Haridwar watching the beautiful Alakananda and other rivers. While you take this trekking expedition, you will be walking for 6-7 hours on an average every day but it will be really smooth and soothing for your body and mind, truly.

The stay at kund was a very pleasant one. It had wonderfull golden views of Kedardome. Sound of mountain river just below the campsite was like a soothing lullaby. The fully blooming rhododendron gave the perfect reddish look of the season FALL. Now as we come to the part of the trek to deorital, the day started with a double puncture of one of our car which was to take us to SARI. But to our joy it provided us the perfect excuse to start our trek right from kund. The opportunity gave us time to photograph the kedar dome from a height and on the way we also came by a hilly waterfall which gave us plenty to take home some mesmerizing photographs. By the time our car was ready to take us to Sari. On reaching Sari we started our climb to Deorital Lake . On the way we filled up our water bottles from a mountain spring and wow the most refreshing drink i had in my life off cousre accompanied by chewing of rhododendron petals. On reaching deorital we were greeted with patches of snow and a mesmerizing view of snow clad-en peaks of Chaukhamba. We could even capture the reflection of the cliffs in the clear water of the lake. After having a packed lunch we descended down to sari by taking a visit to hilly temple. On the way back we went to Ukhimath, the winter home of BABA Kedarnath. The secondays climb was from Chopta. There was snow right from Chopta. We claded our shoes with the mandatory spikes and started our climb throw the snow laden valley and mountain sides of chopta taking occassional breaks. The temple of Tungnath was almost under snow. After taking a break at tungnath we further ascended to Chandrasila peak making new path through the fresh snows. And like we were on the top of the world with 360 degree view of Nanda Devi, Trishul and Chaukhamba. The weather had by then started getting little naughty with patches of black clouds hovering around. After taking a quick packed lunch we started our descend, which was packed with thrills and surprises courtesy our guide Monu Rana. We went back to our childhood days by sliding and rolling through the snows like 3 year old toddlers and just yelling in excitement. On reaching chopta we boarded our cars to be back to kund. A heavy downpour welcomed us to Kund and let us have a unique experience of heavy mountain lashes. Next day we were back to Haridwar after having a tastefull lunch at Jayalgarh. A wow experience of lifetime in my sixth trek.

Amazing trek & experience ! Have been to few other treks but this one will be right at top. So beautiful 360 degree views, along with perfect snowfall! Deoriatal, Chopta, Tungnath & Chandrashila makes it a complete package. One can also combine Haridwar/Rishikesh, either way of the trip. It all starts from beautiful Sari Village. Then we reach Deoriatal camping. Its surreal site and great views around. One can easily get lost with the 360 degree views all around. Next is Chopta. Again a swanky place to stay in Swiss tents , with snow surroundings. Next day, one starts for Tungnath & Summit. That greed to chase, reaching the top & feeling so liberated, is totally worth it. All-in-all, a must go trek.

What an amazing trek this was. We were 3 friends who joined a group of 11. We all enjoyed each other's company. This trip was very well organized and managed by Thrillophilia. Our guide (Monu Rana) was extremely helpful throughout our stay and guided us patiently. We did this trek in December 2018. Tungnath temple and Chandrashila peak were covered by snow. Our guide provided us Crampons (i.e. anti-slip shoe covers) which made our trek less risky and joyful. This is MUST ACCESSORY to have for anyone who is doing this trek in Snow season. A good Trekking Pole is also required. We stayed in tents which were placed near Mandakini river. The tents were clean and comfortable. The food offered to us was nutritious and tasty. They should improve their packed lunch. Overall, it was a great trek. Can't expect for more.
