Trek To Beas Kund Overview

Location - Manali

Start Point/End Point: Solang Valley

Start Time/End Time: The trek starts at 10:00 AM on day 1 and ends around 02:00 PM on day 3.

About Beas Kund:

Beas Kund is a high altitude thousand-year-old alpine lake that sits royally amidst the mountains of Himachal Pradesh at an altitude of 3,810 meters. This taint less beauty is the origin of Beas River, which is believed to be the water body where Sage Vyas use to take bath while he meditated and wrote Hindu epic Mahabharata.

About the Trek:

Lush green grasslands flourish below the summits of the three biggest mountains around Manali and hidden in these grasslands is the emerald lake. The contrasting sight of this serene water body nestled in between jagged mountain peaks of Pir Panjal range adds to the beauty of the lake and that makes it an amazingly picturesque travel destination and an even better summer trek, to rewind and rejuvenate amidst nature. Your camping experience at the campsite of Bakarthach, under the star-studded sky,  will be an experience worth remembering.

Trek To Beas Kund Itinerary

  • Day 1 - Solang Valley to Dhundi (8kms in 4 hours)

You will arrive in Solang Valley and meet the guide at about 10:00 AM

The trek to Dhundi begins on the first day, carrying with you your packed lunch and dinner

At the end of the trek, you would have arrived in Dhundi, which is a beautiful spot with the river Beas flowing right beside it. Dhundi is also famous for an unbeatable view of the Hanuman Tibba

You will pitch your camps and enjoy a night of camping here.

  • Day 2 - Dhundi - Beas Kund- Bakartach- Dhundi (12 kms and 8 to 10 hours)

The second day is when your trek to Beas Kund begins with a trek to Bakartach after breakfast. You will be carrying the meals for the day with you, packed.

The climb to Bakartach is a little strenuous yet rewarding at the same time. The campsite here is beautiful, beside the river and one of the best experiences ever.

You will notice the scenery changing around you as the vegetation keeps getting sparse and you can see the glacier from a distance.

After about walking for 4 hours, you will arrive at the Beas Kund, a lake with strikingly blue waters surrounded by high mountains and on occasions, purple wildflowers.

After spending a short while on the bank of the lake and taking pictures here, you will trek back down to the campsite in Dhundi

  • Day 3 - Dhundi To Solang Valley

This morning after breakfast, you will trek your way back to the Solang Valley to bring your trip to an end.

Once at Solang Valley, you can choose to take a bus or a shared taxi back to Manali, or can participate in any of the activities here on your own.

We started everything on time, I even reached Solang valley before 10 AM but as we waited for few other fellow travellers who could not make it on time, we started late and did not give many stops to click or get clicked or to just sit and ponder. The first day was a day-long trek to Dhundi which is so beautiful that the river Beas which flew right next to our camping site will lure you into taking a dip but it was freezing and already late evening so I gave up on that thought. As we lay in our tents we could listen to the rush of the river and the night was gorgeous. The Beas Kund is bright blue lake which is really huge and looked very deep. We returned to Solang valley the next day but the scenes and the pictures are stuck in my mind for life. Beas Kund trek is one beautiful high altitude glacial lake trek!

This was on top of my list of the places I wanted to visit, finally from thrillophilia I get the chance to go here, our group was very good and with all generous people, our guide was very polite and well aware of the part of trek. We started our trek on perfect time and reached all the checkpoints on time with enjoying the places in between. The view was very beautiful from lots of places and must carry your best cameras. The stay was comfortable with all beddings and we enjoyed this very much.

Our trek guide was very well-versed with the place, he showed us many wild mushrooms and flowers and told us things about everything that came across the trek. He was friendly, interactive and easy. The cook cooked a nice meal at night and we shared stories over dinner at Dhundi, the first day of our trek. and then the next morning we packed lunch for the second leg of the trek. I was so amazed to see the Kund that I sat near it in awe. I have no words to describe my experience it was so eternal sitting by the Kund and surrounded by glacial mountains.

Enough time is given for you to soak in all the vistas. The temperature is freezing up there so keep woolens and dress properly to avoid catching a cold. I am thinking a detour, the lake was so beautiful. Nature is amazing.
