Satopanth Trek Itinerary

  • Day 1 - Drive from Haridwar to Badrinath – 310 km – 12 hours

    You have to reach Haridwar by 5:00 AM in the morning and then you will start your journey by heading towards Badrinath.

    You will be traveling from the plains of Haridwar to the holy shrine of Badrinath at 3000 m/10000 ft.

    On the route, you will be crossing Rishikesh and then the confluence at Deoprayag, Rudraprayag, Karnaprayag, Nandaprayag to reach Joshimath.

    After you reach Badrinath take rest for the night at lodge/rest house.

  • Day 2 - Active Acclimatisation at Badrinath

    After waking up you will visit the Badrinath temple and be the part of "pooja".

    Later after lunch, you can enjoy a walk to the Mana Village or the Charan Paduka area for an acclimatization walk.

    At Mana, you will also find an ATM which will be the last one on the Indian side.

    At Bhim Pul you can see the Saraswati river flowing down cutting the rocks and disappearing inside a cave. However, you can see this stream meeting Alaknanda river at a distance.

  • Day 3 - Trek to Laxmivan – 9 km – 5/6 hours

    On the third day, after breakfast, you will start the 5 days trek to Satopanth and back.

    The track is gentle uphill following Alaknanda.

    After walking for around 3 hours you will reach a levelled ground called Chamtoli Bugyal.

    From here you will take another hour to the camping ground called Laxmivan (3650 m/11650 ft). Total distance is 9 km and may take 6 hours.

    After reaching the base camp you will get tent accommodation for the night to rest in.

  • Day 4 - Trek to Chakratirtha – 11 Km – 6/7 hours

    On the fourth day, you will trek towards Chakratirtha that will bring you another 11 km close to Satopanth Tal.

    From here you will start witnessing that the area changes to typical icy moraine covered with stones and rocks.

    After continuing for a couple of hours you will reach Sahastradhara, where you will be amused at the numerous waterfalls cascading down the mountains.

    After a few hours, you will reach the base camp where you will rest for the night.

  • Day 5 - Trek to Satopanth Tal – 5 Km – 4/5 hours – In the afternoon walk around the lake

    On the fifth day, after breakfast, you will start the trek to Satopanth Tal and you will be facing a rough terrain.

    Though the journey is short but is tiring.

    After you climb a ridge you can see the turquoise lake.

    You will camp on a suitable place around the Satopanth Tal (4400 m/14430 ft).

  • Day 6 - Trek from Satopanth Tal to Bandar – 14 km – 6/7 hours

    On the sixth day, you will be starting early so that you can witness the glorious sunrise and the reflection of Chaukhamba peak on Satopanth Tal.

    Later after breakfast, you will start to move back to Bandar, via Chakratirtha and Shahastradhara.

  • Day 7 - Trek back to Badrinath – 11 km – 6 hours

    You will return to Badrinath via Laxmivan and Chamtoli.

    You will be resting in the lodge here.

  • Day 8 - Drive from Badrinath to Haridwar – 310 km – 12 hours

    Last day of this amazing trip where you will again start the long journey back to Haridwar.
