It all started with my son wanting to do a trek on his birthday. A quick google search took me to Thrillophilia and Sweety Mallick was very helpful in finalising our itenerary for Sandakphu trek. Makkan Singh and Kavish Rathore were also quite helpful. On Day 1, our family of four reached our homestay at Kopidhara near Mane Bhanjan. We were greeted by Tashi and Anmol. We were soon joined by our other team members, three cousins from Gujarat, one Danish National and a lady from Mumbai. We bonded almost at once and enjoyed the Diwali cracker show at this small village and the simple dinner our hosts had prepared for the night. Tashi gave us a good brief on Dos and Donts for the long trek ahead. This was our first multi-day trek. On Day 2, we started off by 0830 hrs for a steep trek of 6 km through the pine trees. Our senior guide Santa Dada, a gentle soul in his 50s had joined us by then. He took the forward position and Anmol, our other guide in his 20s took up the rear. We were a group of nine with ages varying from 15 to 48 years of age. We had great view of Kanchenjunga and Singalila Range all through the day as we took a tea break at Meghma, lunched near Chitrey and stopped for the night in a homestay at Tumling. Our hosts at Tumling had arranged for a cosy fireplace. Santa Da and Anmol gave my son Dhruv a traditional Nepali greeting on his birthday. We enjoyed the Diwali celebrations at our host's place which was a musical one with the entire village in attendance. Some of us danced to the Nepali numbers sung by the locals. On Day 3, we started off by 0900 hrs and this time also weather was very pleasant with clear view all around. We trekked along a gentle climb to lunch at Kayargutta and finally reached Kalapokhri homestay by 1630 hrs for our night stay. After a simple dinner we retired early. On Day 4, we started by 0830 hrs for our last leg of journey to Sandakphu. It was a steep trek but we enjoyed each moment with the group. We finally reached Hotel Sunrise our last stop atop Sandakphu by lunch. We were surprised to see that the hotel was well stocked with goodies and variety of dishes. It was warm inside the restaurant. Towards evening we trekked to the sunset point and though we could not have a glimpse of Everest and other peaks due to dense fog and clouds, we could enjoy the various hues of the sky due to the setting sun. We came back to the hotel and enjoyed a sumptuous dinner consisting of Chowmein and fried rice. Electricity was available only through solar panels and diesel genset for a limited time. Water was also scarce since it had to be brought by tanker from halfway uphill. So we retired early. On Day 6, we woke up early in the morning (0430 hrs) to get a glimpse of Everest, Kanchenjunga and the other famous peaks along with Sleeping Buddha pose. It was quite foggy and the clouds made it difficult to catch the Mt Everest peak clearly, We then started our climb down back to Seppy through a steep slope. This time Anmol took the forward position and Santa Da took the rear position. We quickly reached our lunch point at Gurduk, Sherpa Himalayan Homestay. The climb down was arduous due to the steepness and rocky trail. We were very tired by lunch due to pressure on the knees. The weather was also very foggy and the mountain ranges were not visible. However the Shrikola river and Timbure village gave us scenic views. We reached our Homestay at Seppy by dusk and our hosts headed by Sushant made our stay comfortable by offering us veg momos with tea and later a simple dinner. We were very tired and quickly retired to bed. On Day 7, Sushant was very helpful in dropping us back to Kopidhara and arranging vehicle for the way back to Siliguri. The entire trek was made very memorable by the bonding within our group despite the varied age difference. We had great fun and will always remember the great time we had. We carry a lot of photographs for remembering those fun moments we had. Thank you Santa Dada and Anmol. Thank you Thrillophilia. Thank you all the hosts en route Sandakphu and back. Regards and Best Wishes.

This trek is considered to be the holy grail of Indian trekking, and it is done so for the right reasons. This trek is sheer brilliance. It is neither tough nor too easy, but this trek is definitely unique and great. Which other trek offers the view of Mt. Everest and Kanchenjunga at the same time? This trek does, and it definitely is the best trek to take with your gang of buddies. I took this trek 2 months back, and I was super glad about it. This was a well-organized and a very pleasant trek, in short. Highly recommended.

We got pretty lucky with our timing for the tour I would say. We got a crystal clear view of the mountains, as well as fresh snow on the ground. Pros: The trek itself was great. It was conducted by a company and beyond who did a pretty great job of organizing the trek as well as the food and lodging along the way. The trek guide was knowledgeable, the houses that we stayed at were quite comfortable, the food was hearty and filling and the people along the way were kind and helpful. Cons: The pre trek organization was a little last minute. I didn't know who else was going on the trek till about a day before we reached. After asking about the details though, Thrillophilia did help out a lot. I think the trek guide did hurry us on a bit in terms of the pace at which we went, but it was still fairly manageable

The trek has a famous point from where you can see the clouds in a sleeping buddha position and it was the best view. There were also local tales about Kalanag, a black water lake, and listening to different stories about it from the locals were fun and exciting. Watching mountain ranges and beautiful views make the visit worthwhile.

We visited here during the spring season and it has the best views in this season. The forest offers different views covered in pink, red, and white shades. There is a point from where you can see the highest peaks and it was mesmerizing to see that.

In this trek, we mostly stayed at local guest houses and we had an incredible time listening to their stories and seeing their day to day life. The climate was great and we had stayed some nights in camps as well and one date we had a bonfire which was the most memorable day of the trek. We interacted with the group people as well and played fun games as well.

It was one of the most beautiful treks we had visited. The views of all the mountains of different countries are visible from here and the best part is the beautiful trails which are completely covered with lush greenery and beautiful flora and fauna.
There are two best seasons to go for the Sandakphu trek. The first season, with the temperature ranges from 8 to 15 degrees, is from April to May and the second season is after the monsoon starting from October to early December when the temperature ranges from -5 to 5 degrees.
The time for monsoon is from July to September, which is not the good time to visit Sandakphu.
Unlike how most people think it to be, the Sandakphu trek is actually moderately difficult and, hence, can be enjoyed by both skilled and beginner hikers alike. However, we would still suggest you to travel with a professional to minimize the risk factors or nullify them completely.
Whether you believe it or not, Sandakphu is actually one of the best options for solo travelers or trekkers. Frankly speaking, if you are traveling with your friends, most of the time, you will miss out on various otherworldly specs of Mother Nature.
First and foremost, you can obviously enjoy the popular adventurous activity of trekking here and savor the mystical beauty of nature. However, if you still do not feel satiated yet, then you can opt for night camping as well. If you are enthusiastic enough, then you may also create a bonfire with your friends and have a grand time with them. Lastly, while hiking in this beautiful location, you will also get the chance of visiting the legendary National Park of Sandakphu.
In essence, unlike a few other trekking destinations in India, the accommodation system of Sandakphu trek is actually a lot better. There are several homestay, lodges, and hotels available in this area where you can get a perfect good night's sleep. However, the accommodations in these places would be almost dormitory-like, so the whole experience would be quite fun if you are traveling with your friends.
If you are going for the trek between the months of October and early December, there are good chances to get a view of beautiful snow peaks in the clear blue sky
