First Day of Trekking, Zingchan Gorge, Indus River
Start your day with a healthy breakfast before driving off to Chilling.
Upon reaching Chilling, the first phase of trekking begins.
Trail through the desolate plains along the Indus River and trek up through mountainous terrain along the beautiful, willow-lined Zingchan gorge.
Upon reaching Skiu, settle down in the campsite and spend overnight.
Zigzag Terrains, Markha Village, Local Life
After a light breakfast you’ll embark on a trek from Skiu to Markha.
Although at 3,700 m, the hike is not very tiring and trails through zigzag terrains over the pristine Markha River a couple of times; the views all through the trail are gorgeous.
You can spend the rest of the day exploring the village and visit a small monastery.
Overnight stay in camps.
Kang Yatse, Blue Sheep, Grazing Meadows
After breakfast in the camp, embark on a steep climb and pass through grazing meadows. Reach Thachungtse.
On the way, spot some of the famous blue sheep.
Starting from here, the Kang Yatse (6400 m), an awe-inspiring, snow-clad, rugged mountain will be your trek companion for the next two days.
Arriving in Thachungtse, get into the camps and retire for the night.
Scenic Lake, Prayer Stones
Trekking today, you will reach Nimaling, which is located 4,700 m above the sea level and is the highest camp on the trek.
On the way, you will be passing through a horizon laced with stones that has prayer inscriptions and stunning lake.
Overnight stay in Nimaling.
Today you hit the last leg of the trek as you climb up the steep slopes and pass the Kongmaru La Pass; the highest in this trek.
Enjoy the most amazing ice wall views towards the north of Kang Yatse Peak and end the day on a delightful note followed by an overnight stay.
Visit Hemis Monastery, Local Markets
After the morning meal, you will be driven towards Leh with an optional visit to Hemis Monastery.
Arriving in Leh, check-in into a hotel and spend the evening exploring the local markets.
Dinner and overnight stay in the hotel.

While trekking the Himalayas, you must focus on building your strength along your shoulder, back, legs, abdominal muscles, and arms. Flexible muscles improve the stretching and relaxing ability of your muscles, determines the extent of movement of your bones and joints, and helps in improving your posture for preventing the low back pain. While you trek for a long distance, it becomes quite crucial for you to arrive along the slopes with relaxed muscles.
Kang Yatse Trek starts from Leh. Once you reach Leh, the trek begins with visiting the Leh Market followed by exploring the Shey and thiksey Monasteries.
You can reach the Kang Yatse Trek, located in the Markha valley by reaching Leh Airport via flights from your city.
Your Kang Yatse trekking experience consists of both the trekking and camping adventure. Your actual trekking experience starts from day 2 onwards to cover an altitude of around 5130 meters high to climb the topmost position of the Kang Yatse Trek Campsite. Skiu, Markha, Thachungtse, Nimaling, Shang Sumdo, are some of the trekking spots to explore on your go. To bless you with a great camping experience, you will be accommodated in A category hotel rooms of Leh for the first three consecutive nights on double occupancy basis. Throughout your mountain trekking experience, you will be provided in tents on a double occupancy basis equipped with foam sleeping pads for the next five nights.
The Kang Yatse Trek is approximately 80 kms. It takes around 9 days and 8 nights to cover the trek. This however, depends on your age and stamina.
Kang Yatse Trek covers a height of 5,130 m above sea level.
Kang Yatse Trek isn’t really dangerous if you have a perfect guide and if you follow the guidelines carefully. However, you need to be careful if you have breathing problems like asthma or if you nauseate at high altitudes.
The trek lets you have enough time for your body to get accustomed to the changing extreme temperatures. Apart from carrying heavy woolen clothes, umbrellas and other necessary equipment, drinking alcohol is an absolute no at this altitude. One should also avoid trekking at night to maintain utmost safety.
Overall temperature throughout the trek varies from 25 to 30 Degrees centigrade in days and 04 to 15 Degrees in night.. You can also explore some showers or snow storms depending on the season you plan your trek.
Some places are mostly covered with clouds all throughout the year and you would occasionally experience drizzles in these places.
Markha Valley has often been explored by a number of solo travelers. Thus, it is possible for you to go for a solo Kang Yatse 2 Trek. However, if you are planning for a solo trip, you should be well aware about the trails and also make sure you have sufficient places to rest in between while you trek.
Though trekking solo has its own thrill, it is better that you do not go for it if you are a novice. In case you have gone for solo treks before, you can easily trek Kang Yatse on your own and explore the places which you want to. It is however, important that you read about the place and know the best time for trekking before you plan solo treks to Kang Yatse.
The Kang Yatse Trek With Markha Valley costs INR 47,000/per adult. The packages cover the accommodation, meals and activities while you are trekking. These do not cover the transportation cost to and from your city.
Since the trek is 80 kms, you should try carrying only the necessary articles and avoid carrying excess weight. The average weight that you should carry is around 8-14 kgs per person. Incase you are not confident with trekking, it is always better that you carry even lesser weights.
Temperatures vary from -5 to -7 degree Celsius on the Kang Yatse Trek.
The best time to visit Kang Yatse 2 Trek is from July to mid September. These months have clear skies and bright sunlight so that you can experience the most of the snow clad mountains accompanied by occasional showers in some places.
