Kinnaur Kailash Trek Overview

Kinnaur is the most scenic but less known district of Himachal Pradesh, located on the Indo-Tibet border. It is surrounded by Tibet on the east, Garhwal Himalaya trek on the south, Spiti Valley on the north and Kullu on the west. The Sutlej River, which rises on the southern slopes of Kailash Parvat near Mansarovar in Tibet flows through the Kinnaur valley. Due to the proximity of Kinnaur to Tibet, the life style and religion of its inhabitants had been influenced by Buddhism, mostly in the northern and central regions, although the majority of the people practice Hinduism.

Kinnaur holds three of the world's grand mountain ranges - the Zanskar, the Greater Himalaya and the Dhauladhar, Mount Kinner Kailash (6'050 m). The circuit around the whole range attracts many pilgrims every year. The Parikrama or circumambulation begins from Kalpa via Triung valley and back to Kalpa via Sangla valley. Drive up to Thangi and the actual trekking begins from here.

To reach this forbidden land, India's northern tip, before July, you will get to travel through the Hindustan - Tibet highway, the ancient silk route following the Satluj. The Spiti river joins the Sutlej from the west and runs parallel with the Great Himalayan Range, the natural boundary between India and Tibet (China).

As a part of daily hygiene protocol, proper care of hygiene and sanitation is maintained all through to ensure utmost care and personal safety of the guests.

We took this trip as a gang of four together and we were glad that we were well welcomed by the pro trekkers. However, I don’t think the trek route is good enough for ladies or first time trekkers. The food, service, and planning were all value for the money.

The trek was interesting while we went uphill. As we started coming down, it was a little risky and steep. The trek arrangement was good and the food was fine especially for the fact that it was provided on such a long trek.

Kinnaur Kailash Parikrama Trek is a religious yet very adventurous one. If you are someone who would enjoy really long treks which involves rock climbing, boulder hopping, etc, then you would definitely enjoy this trek. I absolutely loved how the whole trek was made into a beautiful experience. I am glad to have taken this package.

Kinnaur Kailash Parikrama Trek – When we zeroed in on this place for the trek, we had no idea on who to contact and how to proceed forward with this. After speaking to the organizer, we were so sure that our trek would be planned well. As per our expectations, the trek did turn out to be fruitful. It was friendly on our budget as well as it saved a lot of time as most of the things for the trek was taken care of very well by the organizers.
