Latest Information on Travelling to SHIMLA?

Entry is open from all domestic destinations in India.

  • Face masks are compulsory when going out in public
  • COVID-19 test is not required on entry to the state, however, thermal screening shall be done for all passengers entering the state.
  • Containment zones to remain in lockdown till 31st of August 2020.
  • No night curfews are active in Shimla
  • All supermarkets, parks, malls and attractions are open with strict COVID-19 prevention norms in place.
  • Social distancing to be followed mandatorily when out in public.
  • 14 days of Institutional Quarantine is mandatory for travellers arriving from any Red Zone districts outside Himachal Pradesh
  • Passengers having ILI (Influenza Like Illness) symptoms are also to be quarantined in a government facility for 14 days. 
  • For passengers arriving from red zone districts outside of Himachal Pradesh, carrying a COVID-19 negative test report from ICMR authorized lab, not older than 48 hours from the date of departure,14 days of Home Quarantine is allowed.
  • All passengers must download Aarogya Setu App.

Inter-state entry of private and government buses in restricted in the state, however, intra-state bus services are functioning in the city from 7 a.m to 7 p.m. with 60% passenger capacity.

Situated at a distance of 2.5 kilometres from Scandal Point, Shimla State Museum is a must-visit among Shimla Tourist Places. Dating back to the colonial times, the museum was once the private residence of Lord William Beresford.

At the moment, Shimla State Museum boasts of a vast collection of ancient sculptures, photographs, artworks, and coins collected from all the country. The museum library houses over 10,000 books, magazines, and journals that represent the historical importance and cultural diversity of Shimla as well as the rest of India. The heritage building dates back to 1910 displaying a beautiful élan of colonial architecture in Shimla town. Popularly recognized as the Gaiety Heritage Cultural Complex, at present it serves as the Municipal Corporation of Shimla after complete renovation of its old structure.

It is one of the Shimla museums whose structure is preserved in its original form as to pay tribute to the pre-independence generation.

Image Art Gallery

Nestled amidst the serene ambiance of a preserved woodland the Image Art Gallery is one of the museums in Shimla which houses rare photographs of varied themes on display. You can explore the glimpses of history, heritage, culture, nature and fine art of Shimla exhibited in various sections of the gallery.

Taking photographs inside the gallery is allowed but use of flashlight is strictly prohibited. Some of the highlighted works you can see inside the Image Art Gallery are Christ Church, ViceRegal Lodge and Chandratal Lake Shimla.
