About Urania Sternwarte

One of the most visually stunning places to see in Zurich is the Urania Sternwarte because this high tower literally lets you reach for the stars! The Urania Observatory which came into being in 1907 was the first building of Zurich to be built in concrete. To date, it continues to be one of the most distinctive buildings situated in the Old Town.

Referring to the muse of astronomy in Greek mythology, the Urania observatory is a 50m high round tower where visitors can observe heavenly bodies through a telescope that allows magnifications of up to 600 times! Be it viewing the cloud-rings around Jupiter, the church tower of the Fraumünster, or even the craters on the moon, with the 12-tonne Zeiss telescope, the sky (and beyond) is the limit when at the Urania Sternwarte.
