History of Ulun Danu Batur Temple: 

Pura Ulun Danu Batur was constructed in the 17th century in the foot of caldera of Mount Batur. Lord Vishnu and Dewi Danu, the Goddess of the largest water source of Bali -Lake Batur, was worshipped inside the temple along with 300 other superpowers. As it was considered as one of the most important temples in Bali, a lot of devotees from the island flocked to the place to pay their tribute.

Later in the year 1926, a huge volcanic eruption covered most of the temple compound in lava. This incident forced the authorities to relocate the temple and rebuild it in its exemplary design. Soon it was taken to the older and higher parts of the caldera and rebuilt more or less in its original shape. Nothing much has been changed in this process and the temple still remains as important as it always was.
