About Gunung Payung Beach
The natives fondly call Gunung Payung Beach as Pantai Gunung Payung. It is one of the hidden beaches on Bali’s southern coast which extends a quite seascape along with some precious sights of the surrounding. The location the beach exists got its name from the Hindu temple complex that is Pura Dhang Kahyangan Gunung Payung and it is one of the famous places to visit in Kuta.
The temple complex is located on a cliff top which can be seen from a distance before heading down to the beach. From Nusa Dua, one will take around half an hour drive to reach this beach. The serenity along the way will make you fall for it and as you reach the temple, you may find the grey long tailed macaques.
Highlights: As you reach the cliff edge after the temple, you will be welcomed to the ocean’s views and its sounds below. Reaching the white sandy beach is a tiresome process and thus adventure lovers would take this opportunity gladly. Steep stairs counting up to 300 and the deep green patches have to be covered and as you reach the base, you will see the deep sand with calm water but suitable for snorkeling.
The beach is located quite remotely from the eyes of vendors and thus its purity remains stubborn. But the problem is that you have to carry water and some snacks with you because you will not find many shops nearby. There are natural reef barriers and many chances to spot sea urchins. The temple celebrates piodalan anniversary happens on every full moon in the eighth month of Balinese pawukon calendar but it falls on January or February on the Georgian calendar.
Activities: The beach itself offers an adventure pathway to get access to it so that trek lovers would be amused to reach the beach and the temple located on a cliff. Along with that swimming, snorkeling, sunbathing, leisurely stroll etc are the famous activities available at this beach. The views of the seascape would be giving the perfect backgrounds for your photographic instincts.
